Report on "VISIT JAPAN Travel & MICE Mart 2015" (Flash Report)
From September 25 (Fri.) to 27 (Sun.), 2015, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) held the "VISIT JAPAN Travel & MICE Mart 2015," the largest inbound travel business meeting in Japan, at Tokyo Big Sight (Tokyo International Exhibition Center) over the course of three days.
For the second consecutive year, active efforts were made to collaborate with other events and increase the synergic effect. The event will be held at the same time as "JATA Tourism EXPO Japan" (Host: JAPAN TRAVEL AND TOURISM ASSOCIATION and Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA)) as part of "Japan Travel Week." Moreover, the event provided opportunities for buyers and suppliers assembling together to assist the development of inbound, outbound, and Japan travel business. In addition, JNTO co-hosted JAPAN NIGHT, during which the Nebuta floats of Aomori Prefecture paraded through Marunouchi, Tokyo.
For the "VISIT JAPAN Travel & MICE Mart" last year, we invited 342 overseas buyers (companies dealing with travel to Japan or international conferences) from 26 countries and regions, who conducted active business discussions with organizations of 403 sales agencies (local governments, travel agencies, accommodation suppliers, transportation authorities, etc.) from Japan. *Approximately, 8000 business transactions were made (tabulation in progress).
In addition, 11 overseas media invited from 11 countries or regions, along with 40 domestic media, reported on the business meetings and "familiarization trips." Efforts such as article publication within and outside of Japan are beginning to produce results.
In addition, between September 28 (Mon.) and October 1 (Thurs.) after the business meeting, "familiarization trips" were held for participants to be able to experience the major sightseeing routes in Japan, along with the proposed sites for MICE. This year featured tours such as a green tourism course that included farm visits and overnight lodging at private residences in Tono, Iwate Prefecture in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, as well as a course with stops and inspections at planned summit facilities in Shima City, Mie Prefecture where the 2016 summit will be held. In planning these courses, we strove for the continued boost in demand for travel in Japan with the enrichment and diversification of hands-on programs and the timely suggestion of ideas.
Through the "VISIT JAPAN Travel & MICE Mart," we anticipate that the development and sales promotion of tour to Japan will be further revitalized and that the demand from foreign tourists to visit Japan will grow even higher.
