Japan’s Ease of Accessibility Increases with More Flights to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

An increase in media exposure and daytime arrivals to Tokyo’s nearest airport look to inspire travel to and within Japan

New York, NY, January 24, 2017 – In the past year Japan’s top cities have received unprecedented recognition, making the country a travel hotspot. In October 2016, Condé Nast Traveler’s 2016 Readers Choice Awards named Tokyo and Kyoto the number one and two best cities in the world, respectively. Famed chef and TV personality Anthony Bourdain added extra spotlight to the country with a food tour of Japan with renowned sushi chef Masayoshi Takayama, which was showcased in a November episode of CNN’s popular series Parts Unknown. Amid that backdrop, more flight options to Tokyo’s nearest airport further opened the country up to travelers.

In October, daytime services to Tokyo Haneda International Airport launched from ANA (All Nippon Airways), and Delta Air Lines. To add on to the two airlines mentioned above, JAL (Japan Airlines), United Airlines, American Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines switched from nighttime to daytime flight schedules, making Haneda the most accessible airport to the heart of Tokyo. Furthermore, Japan Airline is confirmed to open their new direct flight route between Haneda Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York starting April 1, 2017.

With the schedule change, visitors can now easily jump on a train at the Haneda Airport International Terminal to quickly and inexpensively access the heart of Tokyo. Previously, when the flights were operated at night, landing times did not coincide with public transportation systems around the airport, making travel by rail difficult. Now, it is only a 30-minute train ride to the center of Tokyo.

The new flights also make it easier for international travelers to make connections to the more than 50 domestic flights that depart from the Haneda Airport daily. This allows smooth access to other destinations throughout Japan that are increasingly attracting travelers’ interest for their local culture, cuisine, and scenery.

One such destination is Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island. Home to some of the finest powder snow and ski resorts in the world, Hokkaido is just a 1.5 hour flight from Haneda Airport. To the south, Okinawa’s beautiful resorts, beaches and warmer climate is less than 3 hours away by plane. Nearer prefectures can be accessed from the airport by ground transportation. The Japan Rail Pass provides foreign travelers unlimited access to all JR lines, including both local and bullet trains, for a set price and time period.

In recent years, a variety of cities within Japan have received ample attention and positive comments from international travelers. With Haneda Airport’s increase in daytime arrivals, reaching cities further off the beaten path has become an increasingly popular option for travelers looking to enjoy a selection of authentic Japanese experiences. “Japan is the most beautiful and the safest country offering great food, diverse scenery, kind people and everywhere you look, it’s clean,” says an airline representative. “Japan definitely offers one of the kind experience.”
