Consumption tax change

As of April 2014, the consumption tax charged in Japan has risen from 5% to 8%. Many transportation fares, hotel expenses and admission fees have risen because of this. Please be careful to double check that the prices you are seeing online have been updated.

Japan Tourism Agency Website Renewals

Welcome to a new fiscal year in Japan. To go along with the new budget the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) has updated some of their websites! Firstly the Discover the Spirit of Japan website has be updated to include more information in an easier to navigate layout! Be sure to browse all of the wonderful videos and Discover Japan for yourself. Secondly due to an increase in the number of cruises going to Japan the Cruise Port Guide of Japan site has been reopened! Take a look for detailed information on each port facility. As well be sure to check out the new JNTO website all about Japan Brands!

Sake & Shochu Campaign Continues

Because of the success of the recent Sake & Shochu campaign which introduced over 70,000 foreign visitors to the charm of Japanese beverages, it was decided to extend the campaign for another year! The campaign will be held in the duty free areas of Narita, Haneda, Chubu and Kansai International Terminals until March 31, 2015. Even if you are in Japan just for a stopover don't miss your chance to sample some delectable local alcohols. Take a look at the Press Release for all of the relevant information.

Tokyo Tops TripAdvisor Traveler Survey

In TripAdvisor's 2nd Annual Cities Survey Tokyo has ranked as number 1 for the best overall experience among all of the possible contender cities. Tokyo also received top 10 finishes in 13 of 16 categories. "Tokyo has received high marks from TripAdvisor travelers, who praise the city for its hospitality, cleanliness and outstanding public transit system," said Brooke Ferencsik, director of communications for TripAdvisor.
