Enjoy fabulous meals and drinks under the open sky with a gentle breeze. Do not miss the opportunity since some of these places are only open in summer!

Noryo yuka is an outdoor dining terrace featuring a wooden floor designed for summer dining enjoyment. This is one of Kyoto's famous summer traditions along the Kamogawa River. It opens from late spring through the summer. This tradition has over a few hundred years history. The terraces extending out from the restaurant along the river allow the delicious meals and drinks to be served in a relaxing atmosphere complemented by the sounds and breeze from the river. Noryo yuka is common in many other places in Kyoto such as the Takao and Kibune regions and each have different characteristics. Typically, these restaurants were high-end traditional restaurants but today western style restaurants and coffee shops also offer the experience of terrace dining.

A Beer Garden is a casual space to serve a variety of food and drinks and often it is like a beer festival on a busy day. The menu differs depending on the Beer Garden, some places offer food stall type meals with reasonable menus such as chicken skewers and fried noodles, and some offer BBQ or gourmet menus. Experience this summer specialty and enjoy a beer garden as a place to cool down after long walks, but importantly enjoy the sunset and atmosphere with an ice cold beer!
