So far in 2013, the number of U.S. visitors to Japan has seen a big jump, with a record monthly high in May. The number of U.S. travelers continued to increase in the following months as well. A favorable exchange rate and new direct air routes gave travelers additional incentives to visit Japan.
The total overall figure of international visitors reached 5 million in the first half of 2013, 22 percent increase compared with the same period the previous year (Americans accounted for about 8 percent of total international traveler in 2012).
JNTO is targeting 10 million visitors in 2013. Major travel agencies are aggressively launching year-end limited time value travel packages to Japan, and airlines and accommodation offers are also available.
