After the heartbreak of the 2011 tragedy, the Tohoku area has rebounded with astonishing resiliency, to once again become a prime tourist destination. During the past year, we were deeply touched by the outpouring of warmth and support from both within Japan and abroad, and now, through the Destination Tohoku Campaign, which runs from March 18th, 2012 until March 31st , 2013, we would like to invite our friends from all over the world to come and spend some quality time with us, and enjoy all that we have to offer.
The region has been divided into 28 tourist zones, each representing an area with its own distinctive local flavors, including special foods, festivals and folk cultures. There are numerous sightseeing tours and opportunities to enjoy hands-on experiences such as an introduction to learning the Tsugaru shamisen! Each separate zone has "ambassadors" who will help tourists plan their visits so that they can enjoy their trip to the fullest.
Come and experience the warm hearts and generous spirits of the people of Tohoku. We look forward to sharing all there is to do, to see, and to enjoy in the arcadian resplendence of Japan's northeast, our home!
