On June 20 2011, JNTO welcomed a new executive director Ms. Yuki Tanaka from Japan. Read her message to our dear friends!
When I left Tokyo in the middle of June, it was rainy season there. Brightness was a striking image of New York for me when I landed at JFK. Since I am now living in Westchester, I have a privilege of enjoying wonderful nature, which is also quite different from Tokyo (and you can have a seat when you commute!). My new life in New York started quite favorably. The only blemish is that promoting Japan as a travel destination is having the hardest time ever. This is quite unfortunate for my new start at Japan National Tourism Organization New York Office…
Well, not quite so. This may be the worst time but then we can only get better off! So if we look at this positively, all we have to do is to speed up the recovery. But then, what about the record-braking high value of yen and fuel surcharge? Don't be so pessimistic! Even under this situation, there are people who come to our office to look for travel information. "Japan. Endless Discovery." We do have many attractive sightseeing spots throughout the country. Now is the time people look at Japan. This should be a great chance to appeal our country and introduce unique endless discovery to the world.
