Fuji-Q Highland Amusement Park, located at the north side of Mt. Fuji and operated by Fujikyuko Co. Ltd (Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Pref.; CEO: Koichiro Horiuchi), is celebrating this summer with the opening of a new attraction featuring the world of Rebuild of Evangelion, the hugely popular anime series, on July 23 (Friday). A new pavilion will house the world’s first full-blown re-creation of the scene where the main character Shinji Ikari encounters the EVA-01 unit for the first time.
The new attraction will offer numerous exciting highlights, including a full-scale cockpit of an Evangelion unit and a life-size figure of the character Kaworu Nagisa. Other features include a museum, a studio gallery for photo taking, and a special shop selling original merchandise.
Since its 1995 debut on TV Tokyo, Neon Genesis Evangelion has been a widely beloved anime and its popularity proves to outlive the original TV series. A new theatrical remake in 2007, Rebuild of Evangelion, marked the start of a new boom for the series. Last year, the sequel Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance reaped a total of 4 billion yen at the box office. It is such a megahit that some 800,000 pre-orders of Blu-ray DVD release have been received well before the May 26 release date this year. This collaboration project at Fuji-Q Highland with Studio Khara is poised to generate yet another sensation among fans.
