Tokyo Marathon 2009 Registration to Start

New York, NY, Aug.8, 2008 – The city of Tokyo is organizing the international athletic event in March 2009:  Tokyo Marathon 2009 is the third international marathon race event in Tokyo.  The race is organized by Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) and Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and is accompanied by Japanese Men’s National Team selection race for the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics.  The past two races attracted over 26,000 participants in total both from Japan and many other countries.

There are two races in the event, a full marathon and 10km race, both of which cruise through Tokyo’s business, commercial and government districts.  The race will be broadcast live by Fuji Television Network Inc. within Japan.

The Race Information

Date: Sunday, March 22, 2009

Start time: 9:05am for wheelchair race
 9:10am for elite and mass race
 10:50am for 10km race finish
 4:10pm for the full marathon race finish

Course description:
Full marathon:  Starting in front of Tokyo Metropolitan Government building in Shinjuku – Iidabashi – Imperial Palace – Hibiya – Shinagawa – Ginza – Nihombashi – Asakusa Kaminari-mon gate – Tsukiji – Ariake (Toyosu) – Tokyo Big Sight

10km race: Starting in front of Tokyo Metropolitan Government building in Shinjuku – Iidabashi – Imperial Palace – Hibiya Park

Race cut-off time:
Full marathon: 7 hours
10km race: 1 hour 40 minutes

Application will be accepted via internet from July 22 to September 22, 2008.  All applications would be screened if the number of applications exceeds the prescribed number.  Entrants will be decided by a lottery.  Selected applicants must pay the entry fee.

Entry Fee
Full marathon: 12,000 yen
10km race: 6,000 yen
