Kyoto City Announces Kyoto Winter Special to Lure Foreign Tourists

Kyoto, Japan … September 21, 2007 – Kyoto City announces its most in-depth campaign ever to attract foreign tourists during the winter months.  From December 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008, Kyoto City will be welcoming travelers with its Kyoto Winter Special promotion, timed in tandem with the Japanese Central Government's Visit Japan Campaign*.

The Winter Special promotion will include:
*First-time public openings of normally restricted heritage sites and special viewings of select, precious cultural properties, normally in storage at temples, shrines and museums
*The Arashiyama and Higashiyama Hanatoro or "Flower Lane Festival," where Kyoto evenings become a celebration of winter, as streets, temples, temples, shrines, and historic and cultural facilities are adorned in the dim light of exotic lanterns, flowers and other decorations.
*Special traditional dance and musical performances, concerts, Yobanashi or candlelight tea ceremonies with Kyoto cuisine and traditional and story-telling
*Attractive discount packages VIP gifts, and special services -- such as room upgrades to foreigners at an array of Kyoto hotels and ryokan (Japanese inns)

Kyoto City is a key member of the Visit Japan Campaign, a public-private partnership under the auspices of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, with the mission to encourage and promote international travel to Japan and support Japanese travel suppliers.

The Japan National Tourist Organization (JNTO), the tourism promotion board for the country of Japan, is the main representative for the Visit Japan Campaign (VJC) abroad.
